Cotton is a natural fibre derived from the seed pods of plants belonging to the genus Gossypium. Cultivated primarily in warm climates, cotton is one of the most widely used raw materials in the global textile industry. Cotton fibres are prized for their natural softness, light weight, and high absorbency — qualities that make them the preferred choice for garments, bed linens, towels, and a broad range of other textile applications.
As a natural fibre, cotton is inherently biodegradable and offers excellent wearing comfort.
Polyester staple fibre is a fully synthetic raw material produced from petroleum-derived polymer compounds. It can be manufactured as either continuous filament yarn or spun from short staple fibres — offering versatility across a wide range of textile applications. Polyester is valued for its high tensile strength, dimensional stability, and resistance to UV radiation, abrasion, and elevated ironing temperatures. Its processing characteristics — including clean, consistent stitch formation — make it a preferred choice for both technical and apparel applications. In structure and appearance, quality polyester can closely replicate natural fibres such as cotton.
Thermolite is a high-performance polyester-based thermal fibre engineered for warmth without bulk. Its hollow-core construction traps air within the fibre structure, providing effective insulation while keeping garments exceptionally lightweight.
TENCEL™ is a natural cellulose fibre extracted from sustainably sourced eucalyptus wood pulp. It delivers a unique combination of softness, breathability, and tensile strength — often described as having the softness of silk, the coolness of linen, and the strength of polyester. TENCEL™ provides outstanding moisture management even under high-humidity conditions, maintaining a dry and comfortable microclimate in close contact with the skin. The fibre regulates body temperature effectively and supports the skin's natural moisture balance — making it particularly well-suited for sleep applications and sensitive skin types. Its smooth fibre structure also inhibits bacterial growth, contributing to improved hygiene and enhanced sleep comfort.
Viscose is a regenerated cellulose fibre — often referred to as artificial silk — derived from beech wood pulp. Like cotton, it is cellulose-based in composition, and this structural similarity gives viscose many of the same characteristics: softness, breathability, and excellent moisture absorption. During production, cellulose is converted into a fluid form with minimal alteration to its molecular structure, then extruded into filaments that are chemically identical to the original cellulose. The result is a high-quality, versatile textile raw material with a distinctive lustre — commonly used in fabrics where a refined, silky appearance is desired.
Modal is a premium natural fibre derived from beech wood pulp. It exhibits exceptional strength in both wet and dry states, combined with outstanding resistance to wear — making it one of the most durable plant-based fibres available. Modal offers excellent moisture management and a highly breathable structure, resulting in fabrics with a notably soft hand feel and superior wearing comfort. Its moisture absorption capacity is approximately 50% greater than cotton, helping the body remain dry and comfortable even in warm or humid conditions. This makes modal particularly well-suited to applications in direct contact with the skin.
Bamboo fibre is produced by processing bamboo plants into a refined pulp, which is then converted into high-quality textile fibres. The bamboo stalks are cut, shredded, and processed through a series of natural and mechanical stages before being drawn into continuous filaments and spun into yarn. The resulting fibre is exceptionally soft, lightweight, and silky — with natural breathability and an inherent cooling effect during wear. Bamboo fibre also demonstrates superior moisture absorption compared to conventional fibres such as cotton and polyester, along with stronger antistatic properties and natural odour resistance.
Derived from certified renewable wood sources through an environmentally responsible production process that meets high environmental standards, Lenzing™ ECOVERO™ fibers contribute to a sustainable lifestyle and a cleaner environment. LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose fiber can be used with ease in all applications where conventional viscose is used. With its high moisture absorption, breathability, printability, and ability to retain vibrant colors, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fiber stands out from conventional viscose due to its environmental sustainability and the fact that it can be identified in the final product. Regarded as a milestone in Lenzing’s sustainability journey, LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose fiber is sourced from trees in certified and managed forests. As the world’s first and only viscose fiber to hold the EU Ecolabel—awarded to products and services that meet high environmental standards—the production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ is carried out using processes specifically designed to meet the requirements of this certification. As a result, the production of LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose fiber results in approximately 50 percent lower greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption compared to conventional viscose.
Coolmax® is an advanced moisture-management fibre engineered to wick perspiration away from the skin. Its patented multi-channel fibre structure draws moisture to the outer surface of the fabric, where it spreads across a larger area for faster evaporation — keeping the wearer dry and comfortable even during sustained physical activity.
Originally developed for high-performance athletic applications, Coolmax® is today used across a broad range of end-uses — from sportswear and outdoor apparel to everyday casual wear and bedding. It is compatible with blending alongside cotton, Lycra, TENCEL™, and wool.
BCI, which is an international non profit in the world's largest cotton sustainability program. Many different stakeholders to come together and up from the manufacturer to the retailer BCI cotton production and mitigate adverse environmental and social impacts by common action of the sector that aims to make the future more secure, multi-stakeholder, international initiative.
BCI's approach to the realization of this goal for farmers with the necessary knowledge, skills, and equipping them with the tools to continuously improve agricultural practices. Thus, pesticide use, water resources, efficient use of agricultural workers on issues such as improving soil health and improving the welfare of farmers to reach production in accordance with internationally recognized standards is provided.
